CompassWorks Previews “Feral”

Do you play with the radio at the stop light, so you don’t have to see the man holding the sign? Do you walk by the teen asking for money as if you didn’t hear her? Have you ever wondered how you’ll feed your kids when local businesses won’t hire homeless workers? How do you keep your dignity when public restrooms are few and far between?

How do you maintain your sense of humanity in a dehumanizing situation?

CompassWorks will preview “Feral,” a short preview from its larger multi-media production series, “Homeless in Portland: Stories from Our Neighbors,” at a fundraising kickoff event Sunday, April 22. The original sketch, and a subsequent full-length work planned for fall production, is based on 80 interviews with persons living homeless in the Portland area. “Feral” is in development, and written by Bruce Hostetler, Artistic Director of CompassWorks.

Founded in 2011, CompassWorks’ mission is to produce original works regarding social issues. The company’s motto, “illuminating untold stories,” reflects the company’s desire to put a voice and flesh on the stories of neighbors who are typically ignored, shunned or forgotten. CompassWorks believes that one moment of one story can change someone’s life.

The preview will be performed at the River Room at Thirst on the RiverPlace Esplanade from 4-6pm. Admission is free but advance registration is requested; call 503-893-4873 or email rsvp@compassworks.org.
